The SARB is responsible for ensuring the safety and soundness of the national payment system, which is the backbone of South Africa's modern financial system.

The South African Reserve Bank (SARB) is inviting productive and talented postgraduate students to join its one-year Graduate Development Programme, which will start in February 2027.

Successful candidates will work and learn at the SARB Head Office in Pretoria from February 2027 to January 2028. Graduates will be placed in different departments where they will gain exposure to practical tasks, projects, and the broader work of central banking.

During the programme, graduates will attend various learning interventions at the SARB Academy. These interventions are focused mainly on central banking and are designed to develop well-rounded central bankers.

Participants will also receive training in personal and professional development areas such as:

  • Assertive communication
  • Public speaking and presentations
  • Creating powerful PowerPoint presentations
  • Impactful reporting
  • Teamwork
  • Personal excellence and etiquette

Permanent Employment Opportunities After the Programme

At the end of the programme, some graduates may be permanently appointed into a department of the SARB.
