Joe Gqabi Economic Development Agency (JoGEDA) is a special purpose vehicle established by the Joe Gqabi District Municipality to facilitate and promote economic development and investment initiatives within the district. Headquartered in Aliwal North (Maletswai), it serves the local municipalities of Elundini, Senqu, and Walter Sisulu.

This internship offers young IT graduates an opportunity to gain practical workplace experience while contributing to economic development initiatives in the province.

Position Overview

Position: Information Communication and Technology (ICT) Intern

The successful candidate will assist in supporting ICT systems and end-users within the organisation.

Job Purpose

As an ICT Intern, your responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting and supporting all end-users
  • Attending to departmental ICT queries
  • Helping to resolve technical IT problems
  • Assisting in network and telephone management

This is an excellent opportunity for graduates who want hands-on experience in public sector IT support and infrastructure.

Educational Requirements

Applicants must have:

  • Grade 12 (Matric)
  • National Diploma in Information Technology or
  • Degree in Information Technology or equivalent qualification

This makes the programme ideal for recent graduates looking to gain practical workplace exposure.

Key Performance Areas

1. Procedures, Systems and Controls

You will assist with:

  • Keeping up to date with technological developments
  • Improving networks, accessibility and system performance
  • Implementing ICT risk policies (backups, access control, disaster recovery)
  • Supporting compliance with ICT legislation and acquisition processes

2. Financial Control and Operational Management

You will help with:

  • ICT equipment and software acquisition inputs
  • Monitoring service level agreements (SLAs)
  • Evaluating end-user support systems
  • Ensuring compatibility of systems and new applications

3. Communication and Relationship Management

Responsibilities include:

  • Assisting in coordinating ICT forums and committees
  • Responding to internal queries
  • Communicating audit findings and recommendations
