Learnership Overview
The Water and Wastewater Treatment Learnership Programme combines:
- Classroom-based training
- Practical workplace experience at operational facilities
Learners will gain essential skills in:
- Water treatment processes
- Wastewater management
- Safety standards
- Plant operations
- Laboratory testing and sampling
This programme provides recognised qualifications and improves career prospects in the water services sector.

Key Responsibilities
Successful learners will:
- Assist in operating and maintaining water and wastewater treatment plants
- Monitor water and wastewater quality parameters
- Conduct basic laboratory tests
- Assist in maintaining equipment and instruments
- Participate in sampling and analysis processes
- Attend classes as part of the learnership
- Complete assignments and practical logbooks
- Write assessments to evaluate knowledge gained
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet all the following criteria:
- Must be unemployed
- Must not be enrolled in any institution or registered for another learnership
- Must not have a completed post-matric qualification
(Failure to disclose post-matric qualifications will result in disqualification) - Must have Matric (Grade 12) with:
- Mathematics
- Physical Science
- Minimum Level 3 in all required subjects
- Must be a South African citizen with a valid SA ID
- Must be between 18 and 35 years old (in line with NSDSIII)
